I was looking for a baitcaster but didn't want to invest to much money because money's tight and I've never used a baitcaster before. So I went to dick's, and found the Abu Garcia Vengeance/ Black Max combo. It cost $70 plus I had a $10 off coupon. First impression was its looks. Very cool black and red with some grey graphics on the rod. The black max is my first baitcaster so I had to PRACTICE! Very first cast in the backyard was an instant birds nest Sad

after a few videos and reading on YouTube I picked up some tips and techniques. The whole combo is very light. The casting is very smooth! I almost prefer it over my spinning reels if it wasn't for the weight of the lures. Definitely can't use lighter tackle on a baitcaster but it casted my senko Texas rig beautifully. If you're looking for a baitcaster combo that's reasonably price, give it a go

Bought mine last year, I think its a pretty good setup for the cost. Can't complain it casts good and the rod has decent backbone. Other than the paint coming off of the trigger it seems to still look great too.

I bought a Abu Garcia vengeance spinning reel and rod last year, I really like it but the spinning reel bail broke after a couple fishing trips. Hope the bait caster works out well for you. I really did like the rod.

i just bought something very similar to that, its a cabellas 6'6" pro guide casting rod paired with a daiwa millionaire 300 baitcasting real. i totally agree with you on casting the lighter lures man! i can't cast for shit unless i'm using something at least an ounce or more and even then, it doesnt go even half as far as my spincasting setup did, which i rarely use lures that large anyways. so i've mainly been using it for jigging/trolling, basically anything that doesnt require actually "casting" the rod Embarassed

lol i've even tried a bunch of different # test lines of braid and mono too, hoping i could increase the distance to no avail. i've also watched countless videos on youtube about casting techniques and such, as well as taking the small magnetic brakes out of the reel. i think i may just need to invest in a more heavy duty spinning type real to really get the casting distance i want, i just hate having to sacrifice the awesome fighting power/drag i have with the daiwa baitcaster Mad

Hey Jesse,

Once you get use to the baitcaster you may find it casts pretty far. I was using a 1/4oz bullet weight on my 5"senko and I must have had a nice 30-40yrd casts. It was all about adjusting the brake and spool. Still like my spinning gear though, I feel like I have more control but probably because I've been using them longer
