I jigged up the first and second rainbow trout that I've ever caught through the ice, today. Report to follow.

Unfortunately Paper Mill Pond at Southford Falls is a heavily stocked pond. That means a lot of fish but the fish taste like dirt from the pellets they eat in the hatchery.

True. For catch and release or if you like the way they taste then it is a lot of fun.

Hi jhines!

Almost 'ALL" Trout everywhere in Ct. are hatchery trout and are a "Put a Take" fish.

Only some holdovers and very few wild fish have that beautiful pink/orange flesh after being on natural feed for some length of time Exclamation

Stockies though are very good if brined and smoked!
I've been (brining in my special Rum brine) smoking them for the past few years and come out fantastic Exclamation

Hi af!

Yeah! Pretty much the same with "All" the brood stock Salmon in the Naugy and Shetucket -> Big fish but have no fight in them -> Like hooking into a waterlogged log.
Good for smoking but not much else because they too are on hatchery feed.

Seadog,
I knew someone who used a rum brine. They drank enough rum and didn't care what the food tasted like....
Send me the recipe I'll give it a try.

The little rainbows out of Black Pond are absolutely delicious. The one I just ate didn't taste anything like the muddy brown I got out of Stillwater Pond last year. Even my wife liked it. I'd go back for more.
