Does anyone here fish the Barkhamsted Reservoir? I don't know, is it considered a lake or a river? Anyway, I went there once last year and caught only panfish and perch. My father-in-law pulled in a nice 14-inch largemouth bass on a worm, though.

I fish from a little non-motorized eight-foot sit-inside kayak, so I tend to not travel very far on large bodies of water. I was almost swamped by the wake from a police boat that cruised by me. I'd love to hear about locations and techniques from anyone who's had any success there. The water was crystal clear down to 30 feet as far as I could see and the undeveloped setting is absolutely gorgeous.

LOL! I guess I was on Lake McDonough, below the dam. I had no idea how to fish such a deep, clear lake and caught only perch and panfish.

Hi PECo!

You really need to get a copy of the 2010 Ct. Angler's Guide -> and it's FREE!

Will tell you all the "LEGAL" waters you can fish in Ct.
If its not listed it's either private or town owned and you need permission to fish it!

Best regards,

SeaDog1 - I got lost in the online version of the guide. But I'll take another look at it.

I don't like having to pay $6.00 for parking, $6.00 to "launch" and "be off the lake by 7:30 p.m." That's just cruel! The scenery does sound lovely though.

Kira

If you're in the New Hartford area, head just a little further up to Torrington and hit Burr Pond. It's tiny compared to the reservoir, but the scenery is just as nice. It reminds me of a lake I visited on the Mogollon Rim near Payson, AZ.

I assume that this compensation all goes to the McDonough family?

Phil - I can't foresee any situation that would put me in the New Hartford area unless I'm going skiing or I just feel like punishing myself with the Rte. 44 treatment....is it really crystal clear down to 30 feet?

It was last Fall. When the sun peeked out, you could see the bottom where we were.
