Me vs breakneck trail round 2
OTW at 6am
OTW at 7pm
FOW clear to 6ft
WINDS 15-20 in the morning smoothing out to less than 5 in the afternoon.
AIR 85*
Kira and me have been wanting to hit up breakneck since the start of summer, mostly me but this place has a curse on me. We dollied a 50 year old 100lb canoe up and down the rocky road to the launch, dolly survived the way up this time. We got the skunk for the first two hours or so hitting some of the stumps and laydowns with thoughts bass heaven hanging over our heads. I finally got into a fish which turned out to be my new pb and the best fish from the trip. Best guess is 4 lbs and it ate a kvd swim jig about 5 ft from the boat. Most of the fish we caught were off the stumps or off the outer edges of weedlines. Kira caught maybe double than me on okeechobee colored ol monster and trick worms. I mainly threw space monkeys, a ds, pumpkin tubes and swam a jig and got fish on all four. We lost just as many fish as we caught, most of the ones we lost were quality fish over 3lbs. Covering water is hard in a canoe and we forget an anchor so we kept drifting into the spots we knew held fish but all in all it was a good day. Every single fish fought hard and was super healthy, I could have gone with out the shoot for the sky and throw the hook bs they kep't doing.
The bugs are ferocious, we slathered on deep woods off so thick it was dripping off our skin and they still kept swarming up on the walk in and out. Once again the F'n dolly broke, this trail sucks; it is by no means a trail and the term "breakneck" suits it well. I had to turn the dolly into a sled and drag that bitch out oxen style, it sucked once again. FU breakneck, I'll be back with super dolly. This was after we heard a DEP truck at a campsite, I want a ride in next time.

| Forgot to mention the slime darts, if you worked your bait to fast you got a rude awakening from a pickerel. Caught a few good sized ones and had one bite me clean off on a hookset, got nice mouthful of tru tungsten and ragetail stupid slimey bastards..... |

This outing confirmed my suspicion that I usually fish in some extremely overfished places. I lost a LOT of fish at the boat...these bass were great fighters and extremely fun to catch. We were the only boat on the water for most of the day, then 2 canoes showed up. You really earn those fish by taking on that trail - the a.m. trek with a working dolly was bad...the p.m. trek back with the sled, bugs, etc. was pure torture.
Caught about 15 fish...2 pickerel and the rest LMB. I tried a white spinnerbait and a black/blue jig, but had so many strikes on the Texas-rigged Okeechobee craw worms that it made no sense to deviate from them. I told you it would be a tough trip down the dirt road. Jim and I where dying by the time we got to the lake.
It's an awesome place.
Glad you guys had fun and caught some fish.

I can't believe what a difference the pressure causes. I don't think I can ever go back to Batterson again.
