If you're looking for a kayak, you should go to Connecticut Outdoors before buying one from one of the usual suspects (e.g., Dick's, EMS, Collinsville Canoe and Kayak). The shop has the biggest inventory of boats that I've seen so far in Connecticut. In particular, it has several boats that are already well equipped for fishing. Unlike the usual suspects, it's a full service shop, including repairs and rigging. And the prices are decent. The owner, Dave Farber, is a local paddler and knows his boats. The shop is located at 20 Main Street in Oakville, which is just outside of Waterbury and off of Route 8.

Yeah, the website is new and still a work in progress. Dave carries some boats that you won't see anywhere else around here, like those from Diablo Paddlesports, which are hybrid stand up paddleboards/kayaks that allow you to fish flats and stand up while you do it. It's worth the drive out to Oakville to just see what he has in his inventory. He often has good deals on used, demo or closeout boats, but you gotta look.

Since you're in the market for a new kayak, have you figured out what you want (e.g., sit inside, sit on top, long, short, stable enough to stand up, etc.)?
