Hi everyone,
I am going to Greenvile dam with my dad next weekend and I want to know if a 6" shakesphere ugly-stik Medium action with 8# mono can take a catfish??

I think the rod is fine. It's fiberglass with plenty of backbone, but I would change the line for 12# florocarbon to avoid a break off from a big cat.

stay with the mono, use your drag it will be good practice on fighting a big fish i belive i asked if this is your only setup if so leave it be, flora line can be a pain in the butt for veterian anglers. this is the time of the year to buy a new set up everybody got deals right now you can get a nice setup under 50 bucks Wink

I Might be getting a baitcast but I do not know if I have the skill Laughing
I will probably get a salt water spinning combo.
I would get this because my Dad is in the navy and might get orders to cheasapeake va in may where baisicly all there is to fish is salt water(on the plus side if we move my Dad is going to buy a center console to take out into the cheasapeake bay Very Happy )

Shakespear makes a "Big Water" combo for under $30, its not bad, ive used it on big channel catfish down in the chesapeake area. Lake Wippernock, great cat fishin, check it out if you go down there.
