I got in my first yak fishing adventure of 2015 with a few guys on Friday. We hit the Mattabassett at 9am and I fished till 2 or so. Jeff Tree managed to land 2 Pike, but the highlight of the day was his accidental foul-hooking of a Carp while throwing a Husky Jerk. With the way the drag was screaming we thought he had a huge Pike for sure….nope!…just a Carp hooked in the dorsal fin! Aside from that, the rest of us got skunked. All in all, a fun day on the water and the first of many, many more this year!

Snapped some photos throughout the day:

Pike are always bound to hit a bigger HJ-12 and HJ-14 in the pattern Firetiger, esp during the cooler months.

Nice shot of what I believe is a Northern Goshawk.

Thanks. The large birds are immature Bald Eagles, likely 2 years old based on the coloring.

Nice trip/pics. Thanks for sharing!

Just a Carp? Looks like a nice little monster! But what do I know, I'm a carp guy. Smile

True. The average person would be psyched and Jeff was. I'm a fish snob I guess, if it's not a Pike or Bass at Mattabassett, it doesn't matter to me Sad Plenty of nice Carp and Bowfin in there, I just avoid them like the plague.

Yes sir. It was awesome watching him reel that Carp in. Really couldn't imagine targeting Carp exclusively from a kayak, those things are huge!

I will let you know how it goes for me.

We will be having fun with them....I'm sure we will be dragged around the lake too!

I started off with Carp fishing, and apparently it was a bad thing to do cause catching anything else is 1/2 fun or adrenaline. To a point where I don't even want to catch anything else (too easy to reel in).

Carps put up a fight like no other....
