I used floro a couple of times and found it to be a hassel as it seems to unspool and fly off the reel due to it having little to no memory. I am referring to a spinning reel. The brand I used was trylene and it was 10lb test. As soon as I lift the bail on the reel, it uncoils and flys off the reel. Am I doing something wrong?

do you have too much line spooled up? This happened to me (only on a baitcaster). Try taking off some line imo.

to much line will do it .
also it sounds crazy but there is a right way to line
a spinning reel..what ever way the reel spins make sure
the line comes of the new spool the same way.or it twists
and unspools...you want it to have the same memory going

it definitely isn't to much line on the reel as I spool it the same way with regular mono and do not have the problem.

One of the things that I do with flourocarbon is after I have spooled my reel, I tie the end of the line on something (usually the hitch on my truck) and walk backwards to unspool the line. When I get to the end, I stretch the line by pulling the rod gently. Then I reel it back up keeping slight tension on the line. It seems to work well for me.

Similar to Greg,..I always pre-stretch my fluoro before I use it. I don't however "pull on it gently",...I stretch it a good 10 feet or so, before I reel it back up. After it's stretched,..it'll lay perfectly flat on the ground and will be much more manageable than before it's stretched!

ps: It should lay perfectly flat on the ground,...otherwise you've got line twist that you should get rid of. To get rid of line twist,...let out the entire length of bare line (with nothing tied to it!) behind a moving boat,..or in the current of a moving river. Then reel it back up under slight tension.
A spinning reel twists the line as it winds (one twist per each revolution of the bail..),....this is just physics and it is the case, regardless of the reel-manufacturer!! However, the line also un-twists itself exactly the same amount as it comes off the reel during a cast. So what you want is a line that's not twisted when it's OFF the reel,...not when it's on the reel. (if you do not believe me, you can convince yourself by doing it slowly with a spool of ribbon!)
Therefore, when you load a reel with new line,..it should come straight off the manufacturer's spool (ie as if it was coming off a baitcaster..),..rather than uncoiling off sideways! It'll be twisted when it's on your reel,...but it'll be straight, when you've made a cast and are fishing with it!

pps: This all gets messed up however whenever you pull drag with a spinning reel or if you use a bait that twists the line,...so periodically, you always need to let your line out behind the boat and get rid of the twist that has built up! Wink

Try all of the above, and then spray the line with line conditioner while it is on the reel. It will help take the memory out of the line, and make it cast farther too.
