Other than the occasional deep sea fishing trip, I've been away from fishing for about 15yrs now. I forgot how much I loved it until recently. I decided to take my kids out for the first time this year and I'm hooked again. Now any time I pass by a local bait shop, Cabelas or Dick's sporting Goods my car automatically makes a turn into the parking lot.

I grew up in Mass so I'm not too familiar with the waterways around here and what places are good to fish. So I decided to come get some advice from some CT pros. I've been lurking here for a few days and decided to join. I live in Northern CT and I'm looking for a few good spots to take the kids and/or myself for some good fishing. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Welcome to the site Dirty Dog, where in northern ct? Are you a saltwater, trout, or bass guy? There are plenty of really good educated anglers on this site, that are more than willing to share information. Look at the archives, and see if anything catches your eye, and read through the info. If you need more info, just start a thread and we will come.

Thanks guys. I am in Granby and so far the only place I have been is Stratton Brook which is a great spot for the kids. I've only been trout fishing so far but would also like to do some bass fishing. Unfortunately I don't have a boat so that will limit the spots I fish too. I'm assuming there are some good spots on the Farmington River I could get to pretty easily.

Dirty Dog,

I'm a bass guy, so I'm not going to be much help with trout locations, but I heard that the Farmington has some good locations for trout as you said. I usually fish from a bass boat, so I'm not going to be much help with shore fishing spots for bass either. Most lakes and ponds have an area or areas that are owned by the state near the boat launch itself, that you can fish from shore at. I know you can catch some decent bass from Rainbow Resevoir, and Middle and Lower Bolton Lakes near the boat launch areas. Also from the CT River in the South Windsor / Windsor areas, there are stripers in the river right now as well.

Thanks guys. Went out for a quick 1hr trip to Stratton Brook today. Caught a small trout...not worth keeping.
