I was able to get on the water at O'Sullivan's Island. Yes, it's open. There was very little ice from the ramp to the Derby Dam. I made it downriver only halfway to Sunnyside from the ramp. I had to do a little bit of ice/slush breaking to get down there. Unfortunately, I marked only two solitary fish halfway up to the dam on the fish finders. The fish just weren't there, today.

Seeing you hardly marked anything, might this mean they're starting to head down?

Starting to head down? They very rarely stay up river that far.

There was almost no flow from the Housy. The dam was OFF. The Naugy was flowing clear of ice, though.

I was surprised that O'Sullivan's Island Recreation Park is open. Last I heard, it was closed. . . . Rolling Eyes

Anyway, when I arrived at 1:00 pm on Thursday, I saw that the ramp wasn't plowed:

There was lots of open water:

I took some photos as I motored up to the dam:

Here's the last photo I took looking back downriver:

I had to break through a few patches of ice and slush to get halfway down to Sunnyside from the ramp. Although I could see open water on the upriver side of Two Mile Island, I didn't feel like breaking through a solid 1/8 mile of ice and slush to get there, especially since I didn't mark a single fish with the finder after I got downriver from the ramp.

Hey, Rich. I read RichZ's report from yesterday. He said that he and his buddies had to shovel out the ramp a little bit, but I had no problem at all launching and recovering my boat with my Jeep. Well, except for having to wait 10 minutes for the guys who were sleeping in their work van on the ramp to get it out of the way when I returned. Wink The van had bald tires and only rear wheel drive. Rolling Eyes

I was out there yesterday and all the boaters struggled to get a few each. Everyone from shore got skunked!

Forgot to mention that the boaters were saying there were lots of fish, just weren't biting.

And we now have this big arctic blast arriving and staying around for at least a week with overnight lows in the single digits this week Mad

I am SICK of this cold weather and am desperate to get out into the water at the striper spot after the master told me there's just a bit of open water with still plenty of ice Mad
