Took the day off to get some bass fishing in with an old friend. The water was very low, crystal clear and warm. The day was breezy and overcast with a few sprinkles.

Well plans changed quickly. The day started off with some small bass aerobatics. My trusty F5 black/gold floating Rapala was working well. For kicks I tried the colors bleeding copper flash, rainbow trout and silver/black. I ended up going back to the black gold.

We took a break for lunch, NY Strip on the grill Smile

After we recovered from the meal we headed down stream a ways. I dont recall what lure I started with but I had several HUGE trout chase the lure right up to my feet. My buddy was clobbering some browns about 75 feet to my right with an Als Goldfish. I switched out a few lures got some hits but they just werent hitting my lures as well as my buddies. I switched to a Yo-Zuri Gobi. I immediately caught a few browns about 12". I didnt like the lure though as its hooks are small and difficult to remove without harming the fish. I switched to a 1/4oz red Rooster Tail and caught several more. One was about 14" and pretty stocky, but the best soon followed. On a very long cast I bounced off a rock intentionally. I instantly felt stuck.. I proceed down stream to get 180 on the other side of the lure to free it up. At that point my line started moving. I wasnt stuck, the lure plopped in the mouth of a big curved jaw daddy

Nicest trout I caught in quite a while. We stayed a while longer, found a pool of small bass then called it a day, a good day.

As a side note: There were crayfish visible everywhere. The fish I believe were eating very well in this low water conditions. Lures colored in Red or Gold were most effective. I think a trailer hook on the Rooster tail (or equiv) would have yielded me a few more of the big fish. The trout appeared to grab the fur, move the lure a few feet and drop the lure.
There were no trout rising for insects and nothing appeared to be hatching

I was shopping at Cabela's in East Hartford this evening and saw those Yo-Zuri Gobis. I was wondering what you would catch with them. Thanks for the report.

The steaks were fresh from Amity Meat Market, marinated in liquid smoke, cognac,Madeira, garlic, black pepper, sea salt and oil.

They smell and taste DEEEEElicious. I also served baked potato's of equal proportion and quality, smothered in butter so the skin was just right. The other veggie was fresh corn bathed in butter.

Theres a reason im a 165 pound man trapped in a 225 pound body Mr. Green
