i kid you not, I watched a GIANT blue crab swim up from like 15 ft down and grab a full size mallard duck, and pull it back down under. The duck came flying back up and out of the water a few seconds later missing a foot! This was at Luciano's Boat house/Pilot's Point? Marina in Westbrook or Clinton. We were feeding the duck. Shit was insane. I was doing a lot of crabbing around that time and it was larger than anything I had ever seen. Had to go 10" from point to point. I'm saying, it was eating ducks.

My friend and I saw one try to take down a full grown Canadian goose on the Bantam River. It had 3 other geese kicking it trying to get it to let go. When it finally did, the goose came up with the full leg, but it was bent backwards and very badly mangled. I thought it was a big snapping turtle until the head came out of the water. Crazy to see!

Ive never fished for Pike and would really love to. Im not an ice fisher though and it really doesnt interest me enough to spend the money on all the stuff. When the ice is gone and someone needs somebody to go with for Pike please PM me as Id really love to learn. If going from boat Id foot the bill for the gas for the boat. Just give me a heads up a little in advance and let me know exactly what I should get as far as lures and line and stuff. I love fishing for big aggressive fish like Blues and Stripers and I know Pike would be right up my alley! Heck, you probably would convert me to a fresh water fisherman!

the CT river has the largest Pike population east of the Mississipi River. They hit big spoons big weighted soft plastics, live bait and dead bait. I just cleaned a 12 lbs Pike last night from Lake Carmi VT, it had the skin from a fish someone had filleted in its stomach like a foot long ... I don't know if people were using it for bait or chum or what.

Is now the time to fish for them or when is best? Is it really a boat thing or is shore just as easy for them?

I have one of these duckling lures: http://www.persuaderamerican.com/baby-duck.html

I haven't thrown it much (short window of opportunity) but It's convincing enough to confuse a mother duck with ducklings...I kind of felt bad for deceiving her...she wouldn't go near it, but she couldn't take her eyes off it either.

Spring and fall are the best times for them. The pike family is similar to stripers when it comes to water temps.

Kira that thing looks like it came out of Freddy Crouger's bath tub. Please record and post something hitting that thing!!! We have caught pike all winter from shore from the launch at Haddam Meadows.
