It's not just you. Europe's lakes hve huge fish. As far as the carp in Europe go, its a multi billion dollar industry over there. Lots of the lakes you have to belong to in order to fish it, or you have to pay to fish for the day or week. So there are anglers constantly throwing in all sorts of food in order to get the fish in the area of their bait. So with all that food going in, they get absolutely massive.

World-record carp caught twice in a week by different anglers
Colin Smith landed and released a 100-pound, 8-ounce common carp at lake in France, then John Thorpe caught same fish less than a week later
A fisherman in France reeled in an incredible 100-pound, 8-ounce common carp that, if approved by the International Game Fish Association, would smash the current world record of 75 pounds, 11 ounces, a fish caught at Lac de St. Cassien in France in 1987.
Colin Smith (above) was the lucky angler, catching the behemoth carp a couple of weeks ago at the popular carp destination of Etang La Saussaie in the Champagne region of France.
Remarkably, the same fish, which was released after it was weighed, was caught again just last week by John Thorpe (below). We surmise that the fish had just started eating again after getting released since it had lost a pound, this time weighing 99 pounds, 12 ounces.
How do they know it’s the same fish?
Etang La Saussaie is an 8-acre, privately owned lake known for fishermen catching huge carp, and the owners pretty much know the fish population in the lake.
Fact is, this fish has been caught several times before when it weighed less.
“The fish is generally caught once or twice a year,” Phil Gregory of Carpe France said in an email to GrindTV Outdoor. “The fish’s first capture was recorded in 2003 [at 42 pounds] and has gained an average of just under six pounds every year to date. She was caught two years ago at 88-12 in April and again last year in June at 88-8.”
Those catches, however, were never submitted for world-record consideration.
“The June capture is probably after she had spawned, thus the lack of weight improvement,” Gregory continued. “Realistically, if the fish survives–remembering that record fish are generally at the end of their lifespan–she could well increase in size further.”
So, it’s quite possible we’ll see her again before she retires for good.

Although thats a massive fish, it doesn't make sense to me, as a specimen was taken last year at 101lbs 4oz beating the previous record of 99lbs. Read this article yourself and try to make sense or the article above...

The carp in the photo in the article you posted doesn't look like it has the same kind of huge scales that a common carp has. Perhaps it's a different, separately recognized species of carp.

Correct, the fish in the photo scaling 101lbs is a mirror carp, which have no particular scale pattern. Ranging anywhere between fully scaled and no scales at all, called a leather carp. But as far as I knew, they were both recognized under the general name of "carp", as a mirror carp is still the same species. If you were to catch a mirror in CT scaling 50lbs, you would surely take the record, as one of the more recent massachusettes record was a mirror, unfortunately taken by bow and arrow. Why that counts as an angling record, i have no idea. But as far as mirrors and commons go, I dont think they differentiate between the two. At least not here.

| Justin I think with the world records they do a separate one for mirrors and commons because there def was a bigger carp caught the year before I think and then this carp was caught this year and is also a world record so the only explanation is they are counting them separately at that level. Here in the USA they probably could give a crap less about that. |
