I paddled the lower (i.e., north) pond at Nod Brook for an hour this morning, from about 10:00 am to 11:00 am, until thunder cracked overhead. Shocked Then I got the hell off of the water! Before I did, though, I threw a Rage Tail craw on a 5/0 hook and dragged it over the weeds like a frog. I got a half a dozen hits, and missed two hooksets, but got a good hookset on the best hit of the morning. Unfortunately, I had been too lazy to retie my hook directly to braid and had a 20 pound test fluoro leader that snapped when the fish pulled to the bottom and into the weeds. Sonofab!^@# I have to admit that TurtleKiss (aka Kira) had told me I would regret using anything but straight braid. And, yes, she was right! Embarassed

However, I had an hour to kill this evening while my kids were at their karate class, so I went back to Nod Brook to fish from the shore from 6:35 pm to 7:35 pm. Instead of the Rage Tail craw, I threw a bullfrog colored Zoom Horny Toad on a 4/0 hook. I got only one hit, but I counted to three, set the hook and landed it:

It wasn't a big fish, but it was totally worth the soaked feet and mosquito bites. Very Happy

Froggin is fun but also frustrating at times because the fish don't always cooperate.

Did you throw the rage craw weightless? I usually use those for trailers. I swear by all the rage tail stuff and almost use them exclusively for topwater soft plastics, but the rage shad and rage toad perform unbelievably because you can cast them a mile rigged weightless, whereas the craw is a little small for that purpose. The rage toad especially is a brilliant bait because the material is sturdy- I can get 10+ decent fish out of one bait if I'm using a keeper. They also stir up a ton of commotion with the tail design.

Nothing beats this color at nighttime rigged weightless with braid on a 5/0 hook.

Hey, Jon! Yeah, I rigged it weightless and couldn't cast very far with it. But I've gone over to the dark side and just picked up a couple of baitcasting reels and rods. Plus, I've downsized from 50 pound to 40 pound test PowerPro braid and should be able to throw frogs a mile now.
