Hi,
Had to go to Torrington to do some erans !
Decided to check the lakes again on my way home.

Torrington 2/13/2013
Sunny - Temp 38 F - light winds

Stillwater Pond ..... (Started my rounds here @12:00 noon).
Boat ramp and Parking Lot not plowed and Entrance bermed up 2-3 ft.
1 Blue pick-up on shoulder and observed 2 fishermen all the way over on the opposite side of the pond over the old river channel -> No other foot prints.
Snow, per the foot prints, looked about 1 1/2- 2 feet.

Park Pond
Boat Ramp and Parking Lot still not plowed and bermed up 2-3 ft.
Saw no foot prints or tracks.

Winchester Lake
Boat Ramp and small lot plowed, but who ever did it bermed up the ramp up to 3-4 ft, leaving only a small opening on the far right side.
Main Parking lot still not plowed and Entrance bermed up 2-3 ft.
1 set of foot prints off the ramp and you can see them lead off to the stump field.

Burr Pond
Road now plowed all the way to the Cul de Sac.
Saw no foot prints or tracks.

Highland Lake
Boat Ramp and Parking Lot still not plowed.
Entrance still bermed up 2-3 feet.
Lots of torn up snow (about 2 ft deep) off the beach area.
Looks like a racing circle and is filled with melt-water.
Saw 2 snowmobilers running from 2nd bay to 1st Bay then lost sight of them.
Lake has a lot of wind drifts.

Hogback Res. -> Main Gate Closed.

Colebrook Res. -> Main Gate Closed and Road and Parking Lot not plowed beyond gate.

West Hill Pond
Boat Ramp and Main Parking Lot still not plowed and Entrances bermed up 2-3 ft and impassable.
"Private" Pond Association Parking Lot plowed -> Not for public use.
Someone dug out the snow berm at the Red Fire Pipe.
Saw a number of foot prints sled marks and snowmobile tracks.

Other then the 2 fishermen on Stillwater and 2 Snowmobilers on Highland, I saw no other people.

Snow looks like it has compacted some and crusty looking per the foot prints observed.

Didn't test or measure the snow or ice, as again .... I was alone !
Best I can give you guys for now !
May try again Friday !

Returned home @ 2:30 PM
Temp 42 F

Check the ice every few feet if you go - Stay Safe

Best regards,

It may be frozen already, especially up in that neck of the woods, i fished wethersfield today and it was frozen up pretty good where i was walking on top of it, not through it, and the nights up there are colder than around here in Hartford area! p.s. I doubt all of the cove has safe ice, spud your way around and be sure about the ice underneath all the snow slush ice mix crap on top, that layer on top does not provide enough strength to walk on, and is not safe without significant hard black ice underneath it! -Dan

Seems like the biggest problem is going to be parking this weekend. Especially if we get any snow accumulation on Saturday.

Hi pp1 -> have to agree with you -> These conditions are not the best for beginners or the half-hearted.
That old song -> "Fools Rush In where the Brave Do Not Go" seems to be appropriate at this time !
Crust - Snow - Slush+ Water - Real Ice ? - Water .... in that order ... Not the best of conditions ... And each pond or lake can have different conditions !

Went by Highland today and West Hill as they are closest to me.
Saw no additional activity or people at either.
Temp got up to 45 today and stayed above 32 till 11:00 PM. and Wx for tomorrow is predicted the same
Both HL and WH parking lots still not plowed.

fishville -> You right -. Parking will be awful (extremly limited) and any snow we get Saturday will add to our woes !

As I've said before -> MaMa Nature has been throwing us curve balls all season !

For you younger guys -> This is no time for you to act like Tarzan's.

"SAFETY" is paramount with conditions like this !

Be Careful -> Check that ice every few feet -> Go with a buddy -> And have ALL your SAFETY GEAR Exclamation
