In Deep River, there is a quarry that offers some of the best fishing I've ever seen in the state of CT. The reason is probably that it's private property and no one really has the balls to fish there, and I can't blame them. I'm sure that some of you have probably heard of this place in the news. A few years back a student at UCONN was killed there when he fell of the 40 ft cliff and drown. I am thinking about creating a petition, to make this open to the public. If they were to blow up the cliffs, I don't see a problem. This is great land that nobody uses, so why should it just go to waste? I doubt many people know where this place is because it seems like nobody is from my area, but I know some of you have to know. If anyone is interested in this idea, let me know, and we can get the wheels in motion on this. COME ON GUYS!!!! VOICE YOUR OPINION!!!!!

Yeah, I'm not to sure how well it would work either, but it's always worth a shot. I've been itching to get out to this place but it's just not worth the risk.

I know exactly where it is. Right across the way from my office. I dont think you have a chance to get permission. I have talked to some of the locals near by, there is nowhere to park your vehicle. I thinkthat pisses them off and they call the cops. I see cruisers there all the time. Never heard to much about the fishing

Yeah that is the other problem is the parking. But, if they opened up the gate, they could clear a small area for parking. The fishing is amazing there! I've seen bass there pushing 10lbs.

It's probably a liability issue. Someone already got killed there you said. Wonder how that worked out for the land owner.

Well the reason right now that it is a liability issue is that there are 2 big cliffs there, one is about 40 ft and the other 25-30ft. Kids go there and jump into the water. If they were to demolish them, that would be the end of that, then what's the excuse. It's just unused land. Why let it go to waste? It's realy not that big of a place but it offers some good fishing.

Good luck with your petition...What your asking (demolishing cliffs) costs some serious cash, and in case you haven't noticed there isn't a whole lot of that around right now. Even if there was do you actually think a landowner or the general fund loving state of Ct. would spend it on demolishing cliffs so people can fish?

if its as small as you say and they opened it to the public, it wouldnt be fishable within one season. Polaks, bucket fisherman and everyone one else will pick that place clean.

I fish plenty of places that are twice as small as that place, and there's still an abundance of bass everywhere else. Not to mention that this place is rarely fished because it's so heavily patrolled, and has been that way for years. The fish are able to live and grow without being disturbed.
