Get the yellow "trout nuggets" small hooks size 8-12 a sinker about 12 inches up,fish it on the bottom. Pretty simple and it works in lakes and ponds not too good in streams and rivers unless you fish a pool or slower water. For some reason the yellow catches rainbow and brook trout, not too many browns. But for browns copper "Phoebes" or gold/silver "Roughriders" work well in both lakes and rivers. As far as bait for browns go with nightcrawlers or small/medium shiners fish with a bobber.
Hope this helps, good luck,

JC

Newly stocked trout can't resist shiny flashy lures like inline spinners (e.g., roostertails). Trout patterns work well on the little cannibals. If bait fails or is slow, cast and retrieve one. It's more fun, anyway.

A small and medium minnow style crankbait is another stocked trout can't resist.

Rapala Original Floater, Rebel Minnow, and YoZuri Pins Minnow are all good ones. Plenty more in that style.
