I am new to Shad Fishing, I was hoping for a little help. I really have no idea what spots are good for shad fishing on the Connecticut River or around the Hartford area? Also I do not have a boat so i am going to be fishing from shore. I would greatly appreciate any advice/tips.
Thanks!

Not too sure about CT river shad fishing, but if you cross the border into Mass, Chicopee and Westfield river are sure bets using shad darts. Gotta get your MA license of course though

Any idea where in windsor to fish, i know the mouth of the farmington meets the CT river there which is apparently great for shad, but i was wondering if anyone knew spots around there to fish? would really appreciate the help, so far all the literature i've read on shad in Connecticut has been helpful in understanding the species and stimulating my desire to fish for shad, but has not aided my attempts to find a good place to fish for the damn things.
Any tips are much appreciated

The IGFA world record shad (over 11 pounds) was caught at Holyoke Dam in Mass.

I used to fish there as a teen, over on the Holyoke side, down river from the dam by the bridge. great shad fishing as I recall. Not been there in years.

shad fishin is kinda tough. Never done too well from shore. Yellow Darts, or my favorite...trolling willows is perhaps the best way to catch em. Keep in mind, if there are alewives around, you will be sorting thru them to get a shad on a willow though.
From land, see if you can get to where the Farmington meets the CT, or the Bisell Bridge launch.

Technically, you can catch them just about anyplace on the river where the channel is near the shore.

I havent heard or seen much in the way of Shad this year tho.
Good Luck.
