We were planning on getting out early. woke up after 5 and looked a NH buoy and back to bed. still windy and seas over 3ft. it wasnt supposed to be too bad. got back up again 730 and it died some. finally out there before 10 but still pretty windy. headed out to buoy 20 and it was pretty nasty north winds but since we werent far from shore it wasnt terrible. did a few drifts nada, kept working in closer nada. saw middlebank out there they seemed to move a lot. from south of 20 to in close to over by bpt and I think towards fairfield. finally moved in real close outta the waves and wind off pleasure beach in like 9ft and got a couple sea robins and short fluke on one drift. moved slightly west the next and nada. Kept working west tried bpt harbor breakwall on east and west sides nothing.

Finally decided to do some T&W so we headed to fayerweather light and then a big raft type looking boat heads towards us. Yup the DEEP. never in decades of fishing the sound at least in this area have we had the deep check us out. usually its only been the local police. they asked us if we kept any fish or snagged any bunker we said threw back fluke. then they checked all compartments, flares, fire extinguisher, life jackets, throwable and even fishing liscenses. only thing they didnt ask was boating liscence. they said theyve had a lot of complains about people keeping short fish. guess they are cracking down. they coudldnt get anything on us so we were good to go.
Back to fishing after that over to black rock and once we got far enough in by the docks picked up a small schoolie on a swimbait. did a few more passes and another small one on the t&W. a few more hits on another pass but nothing after that.

wind seemed to have died some and this was after 2 so we went back out over to 20. a few spots there and nothing, over in close to shore by marnicks and lighthouse nothing. mouth of river nothing. wind i guess died for a very short time and kicked back up again. headed over to milford around charles and a few spots there nothing. not even a porgy frown hit milford side of housy breakwall on way back in and my brother got a short fluke but that was all. tried inside river more nothing. one last shot do a troll back in and picked up a small schoolie on a swimbait. called it a day before 5.
Pretty darn disappointing day. Didnt see any other reports all weekend on here in this area. and the eastern sound reports didnt look good either. Anyone else have better luck? perhaps crap weather last week screwed it all up? may have to switch to freshwater till things get going here.
