Have no clue where to fish from the surf and would like a little guidance. I have tried Rocky Neck beach but had no luck. I have been driving to RI to fish but would like to stay local. I am fairly new to the state so I don't know the local water at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DEEP Pier, Hammonassett, Harkness, a few other spots. Google Earth is a great tool. Access is somewhat limited to a lot of the coastline.

what are you targeting? using bait or lures? are you in good shape (can walk, ride a bike, hike over rocks/boulders)?

i've been to Rocky Neck once with my wife and kid and barely got out of the car before we left. it was crazy crowded and considering how big that parking lot is, i can't imagine what numbers they allow in there. yikes!

i agree with Redneckangler; DEEP Pier, Hammo, Harkness (a small walk if you don't want to pay for parking), Bluff Point (heck of a walk to the rocks but easy bike ride). i've only begun to check out the spots available by shore and have thought about spending my day off to scout some places on the central CT coast using the above access guide. you are welcome to tag along if you're not too far off Rte 9. i am a lure fisherman targeting stripers but am going to give Porgy and Tog fishing a try this year using bait.
