I just tried using a Texas Rig for the first time today and all I caught was about 50 lbs of weeds Mad . Does anyone else catch a lot of weeds up on the sinker?

I saw a television fishing show where the host was fishing with Gary Yamamoto on his private lake. You know who Gary is, right? He's the guy who gave us Senkos. Anyway, Gary gave a tip on how to make a Texas Rig a little more weedless. He put one of those little Eagle Claw egg-shaped rubber bobber stops on the line above a little tungsten bullet weight.

I've tried it and it worked pretty well. I use 30 lb braided line, but think mono or flouro would be more weedless.

a couple of things can cause the weight to get bogged down in weeds. using a lead weight instead of tungsten wil hang up a little bit more. lead weights are a bit larger than tungsten = more mass to get hung up.

Yeah, I was just using some slip sinkers I had from trout fishing. They were probably a little big.

Ditto what Stumpy said, go with tungsten weights instead of lead to minimize the overall "size" of your weight.
