I was trying to take a photo of this great little pond with some nice trout in it but the damn reflection got in the way... Very Happy

Going trout fishing in a couple of days and will have a report. Just wanted to share the Colorado sunset from the other night. Frying Pan and Roaring Fork rivers.

Thanks guys. Amazing sunset as a storm was rolling in. I think it is what John Denver was talking about with "I've seen it raining fire in the sky." He was actually talking about a meteor shower, but hey...this works too. Anyway, I caught 4 trout today in the frying pan in about 8 casts at a picnic along the river. Just showing a few kids how to do it. Nothing photo-worthy, but a nice day in Colorado.

Nice job Jed and great pic. You read my mind when I saw your pic and being a John Denver fan, those lyrics were the first thing that popped into my head.

Jim -

I first saw John Denver when I was 4 years old in 1977 at the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. I had all of his records and used to play and sing to him all the time as a kid. Truly a lover of the outdoors with one of the purest voices ever. Long story short, I spend a lot of time in the Aspen area and have become friends over the years with John Sommers who wrote "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and was in JD's band playing fiddle, banjo and mandolin. John's a great guy and I've had the pleasure of playing with him and his 4 piece here in town. Great cowboy music.

I'm headed back to Connecticut soon and it'll be time to dust off the Ranger and get after some bass again!

Wow that's great, it must have been some show. Yes he truly loved the earth and the environment singing songs about the outdoors and the ocean like Calypso which is one of my favorites. Too bad he had to die in a plane crash.

Calypso, Windsong and The Eagle and the Hawk are probably my top 3.

Hey Jed,
Do you remember watching the "Undersea World of Jacque Cousteau" documentaries when you were growing up? Man now that was one show I was really mesmerized with watching on tv when I was a kid. I even remember the episode with John Denver when he spent some time on the ship and finally wrote the song Calypso to honor Captain Cousteau and his men. I think watching those diving epsiodes had some bearing on me years later in life to try SCUBA diving. These two guys (John Denver & Jacque Cousteau) I would have to say really made an impact on me when I was younger on how I would eventually learn to love the water and the fishing enjoyment I derive from it and to teach my kids the beauty of the great outdoors. These true pioneers to me will never be forgotten.

I don't remember seeing the show as a kid, but I've seen the segment in a few John Denver retrospectives. Great stuff. Totally agree.

I lived in WV for a few years when I was a kid (i.e., nursery school through first grade) and John Denver was mandatory listening because of the song Country Roads. I used lyrics from The Eagle and The Hawk for my senior year high school yearbook quote.
