Went out for about an hour on the river fishing for Smallmouth and Pike at around 4pm.I dont know the water Temp, but it was sunny and warm outside.

Fished my regular spot and didnt get a darn bite! Tried a bunch of different lures, but nothing produced for me. In the past my Rapala Xraps always produced for me there, but nothing yesterday...

Am i missing something for this time of year for smallies and pike?

Marc,

Not knowing the water temp it's hard to say at what stage the fish are at. If they didn't want to chase lures like the X-Rap maybe you needed to slow things down a bit like fishing a tube, a shaky head worm or a jig etc. Remember the river warming up takes longer than lakes and ponds.

Went back out this evening right before dark, and not a single bite.
I threw out the rapala, crankbait, and a senko worm.... nothing...

SkeeterJim was right... slow it down with something like a jig. I need to practice with those more anyway... next time i go i will try it out...
plus the jig will help with the current... even though its slow moving water... it still took my worm for a ride....
