Did anyone get a look at the lower Housatonic River in Shelton, today? Is it too locked up with ice to fish? I'd especially like to know what the ramp at Sunnyside looks like. Is it even launchable?

Ive been watching it very closely as the minute it frees up and gets to at least around 28* Ill be in there!!! Typically It does open up a few times a day when the water gets moving good meaning about 3.5 hours after high tide but I doubt youd be able to get very far for very long!

Thanks, Wade. The water level in Shelton should drop almost seven feet from high tide at 7:21 am to low tide at 2:27 pm. Bob and I will give it a shot, tomorrow.

What does the cove over by Sunnyside look like?

I've been ice fishing there once, which was January 2010, the last time it was safe for ice fishing.

The roads are too sloppy to trailer my boat 50 miles down to Shelton. I have to drive down to Manhattan, later, anyway.

Good luck this weekend!

Boats were doing pretty good yesterday and today but fish were just out of reach from us shore fishers and never came in ever. Peco and Dirtydawg, I think Im gonna have to pull the Manatee out of retirement next weekend! I sure hope she still holds air!!! I just inflated it so we'll see if she holds air.

I'd love to see that, especially if you were to hook into a keeper. Laughing

Luckily I dont have to subject myself to it tomorrow! Ill be riding in a little more comfort which is good as I dont really trust myself in that in these temps but I probably would have done it anyways as Im really desperate to have something tugging on the other side of my line and lately no one has been able to reach them from shore.

Well true to my style we put in a Looooong hard day fishing. Man were the fish very uncooperative! We fished from about 7:30 until 5:30 and boated 24 between the 2 of us the right way! If we wanted and believe me when I say wanted we could have boated tons more fish as they were thick in a few spots and we had to try very very hard not to snag them. 1 wrong twitch and you had 1 sideways. Phil is a great guy and I would love to go fishing with him anytime! Man did it get windy for quite some time. Id say it had to be around 30 mph at at times! Thank the lord that Phil has that auto pilot system with his trolling motor to keep us in 1 spot as that would have been a full time job most of the day between the tide and the wind.
