Paddled out on Long Meadow Pond this weekend. The pickerel were going crazy, I landed a personal best. The bass were also very active last night during the drizzle. Caught 4 LM, 2 that were sizeable and 2 little guys, caught a fairly large crappie as well. Here is one of the many pickerel that bit. Senkos were responsible for every catch.

Got that right. I love pickerel fishing, plus its good practice for bass fishing considering I dont change a thing when catching pickerel. They will eat anything it seems also, one of the easier fish to target for sure but with great fight in em.

You should tie on a white spinnerbait and fish the shoreline at Hamburg Cove. The chain pickerel all seem to be around 24 inches long in there. It's actually hard to find any that are under 20 inches long. A couple of years ago, TurtleKiss (aka Kira) and I had a chain pickerel catching contest there, which she won with a 27 inch, four pound, 13 ouncer:
They're already biting in there, this year. I caught a 27 incher there on 04/21:
Yeap, that thing had a bad case of scoliosis!

Those are some nice looking pickerel. Ill have to try out the white spinner in my area. If I am ever fishing that part of the state I will certainly have to go to Hamburg Cove and see if I can yank out a few of those pickerel.

I still need to try it. I keep promising myself to fish West Hill Pond and keep one. The locals don't like them in there, anyway. They prefer the trout and Kokanee salmon.

I release everything, ill be keeping some panfish this summer, pickerel will be tried too.

We should have a catch and fry tourney, this year. Last year, Jason, Pete and I did a catch and grill at East Twin Lake. That trout was tasty!

I tried pickerel for the first time last year after catching a 1 pounder that died.
It was a very tasty meat. Pickerel are said to be better eating than pike.
I myself love catching pickerel for they're aggression and fight. Pound for pound, most aggressive, hardest fighting member of the pike family here in North America.
Inline spinners and suspending jerkbaits are excellent lures for pickerel. Doing a steady retrieve with a medium size Mepps, Blue Fox, or Panther Martin gets them to hit. I don't bother much with Rooster Tails due to their quality. Constant jerking or 1 jerk every full second with a Rapala Husky Jerk or X-Rap gets pickerel to hammer the lure. |

| Agreed, pickerel are one of my favorite fish to catch, they put up a great fight for their size. I've eaten them a few times, definitely one of the best tasting freshwater fish. |

So are there any places that you can catch nice size white perch? I use to fish for them and other panfish before I focused on bass.
They are good eating too, that catch and fry would be a great idea.

Hamburg Cove is the only spot that I know for catching anadromous schooling white perch, but they were nowhere to be found when I was there on 04/21 and I haven't been back since.

I thought of Hamburg cove but unfortunately I dont have my kayak any longer, and i heard it can be a real pain getting a boat in down that way, i may be mistaken.
