What are the rules or regulations if you would to bring a snowmobile on Candlewood lake? Or any lake in ct?

I would make sure you know the lake well. I saw a salvage crew at the lake last year trying to get a snowmobile that broke through the ice.

But does the sled need to be registered to go on lakes in Connecticut?

does it have matter if its not registered in ct for example can it be registered in New York or Vermont?

I believe that the regs are the same for snowmobiles as for ATVs. If the state has reciprocity, then you are good! I believe that NY, VT, and PA are the only states that have reciprocal policies. With that said, I'd still check the DMV website.

Per the CT DMV ( http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=810&q=412854 ):

Out-of-State Registered Snowmobiles - Certain out-of-state registered snowmobiles may be operated in Connecticut if the state in which the snowmobile is registered grants similar privileges to residents of this state. Currently only Vermont grants similar privileges. Also, if the owner is a Connecticut resident the snowmobile must be registered in Connecticut for use in Connecticut.
