Well after doing reseach and actually clearcoating a boat with automotive clear, I realized that the automotive clear would easily chip off old gel coat. This was after my buddies old 1980 ranger, started chipping like crazy, last year so I just finished it again, this time I sprayed West marines clear gelcoat, this is extremely strong stuff, makes auto clear look like a joke when it comes to durability, I had to buy a bigger nozzled spray gun, cause the gelcoat is fairly thick. it levels out like glass. And it brought this boats finish to life.So any of you guys that have beat up finishes on your boat, you could make it shine like new with the west marine paint and gelcoat systems.
