While I was jigging with a white maribu at the lower tidal freshwater area of the Pequonnock River Sunday evening, I could see fish about 8" long circling the jig and had a few swipes. Also had a few hits where they'd right away spit it out. I got one good look at one that I had on and couldn't tell if it was either a crappie, white perch, or possibly even a hickory shad.

Which of those 3 fish would do those types of movements on lures and bait?

Somebody who I talked to earlier brought up a good point. Could have also been little stripers.

That's another one I was thinking about Alex, even though most have already made it up the Pequonnock in Bridgeport and Trumbull.

Not having seen it i would rule out striper because i would like to think that they would have hit it harder and you would have been able to hook up. I'm thinking something with a small mouth like panfish or crappie

I'd confirm either white perch or crappie from what I saw Thursday evening.
