Hi Nooby,

Way too early for you to ask that question. Shocked

Look at the Wx reports and you'll see the warmer temps + predicted precipatation prior to the weekend.
That's not good!

Ice and ice fishing is very very dependent upon the Wx (Temps, precipatation, and amount of Time it stays cold Thumbs Up or warm thumbs down ) Exclamation

You must start watching Wx reports as well as extended reports to make a good judgement as to -> Go fishing or NOT go fishing Idea

The ice in the northwest part of the state has held up better than I thought it would, despite the weather. Odds are that it'll be fine on Saturday at Burr Pond.

I was on the ice with SeaDog1 from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm today. We found six to seven inches of clear ice almost everywhere we checked, but although the ice started out dry and hard, it got soft and slushy on the surface by 1:00 pm. These warm days don't help, but the nighttime temperatures will be in the low 20s over the next several days, so I'm confident that the ice at Burr Pond will still be good this weekend. Check it carefully as you work your way out onto it.

Burr Pond has black crappie, so I'd use small shiners. Then you'd have a shot at catching largemouth bass and black crappie. Plus, no matter what size shiner you use, you'll definitely catch some (read: many) chain pickerel, so smaller and cheaper would probably be better. Good luck!
