I caught my first largemouth bass of 2012 while jigging through the ice, today:

Whoo hoo! Very Happy It was a beautiful day, but the ice is getting sketchy:

coloring of bass especially lmb depends on water clarity and / the depth of the fish.

The water was clear down to only seven feet. We caught all of the fish near the bottom in 20 to 22 feet of water. There isn't much weed cover on the bottom of the lake.

My buddy jigged up five short largemouth bass and four sunnies. I got the one bass and two sunnies. While the sunnies were colorful and iridescent in the sunlight, they all looked a little pale, like they had been bleached. Several of the sunnies were of decent size. Here's a nine-incher:

The bass were all vividly patterned, but not very green. However, the brook trout that I jigged up yesterday was absolutely beautiful; golden and speckled, with some pink speckles.

Nice job! What type of jig did you use? How are you getting those panoramic shots? They look good!

My buddy (okay, it's jonnyfly00 aka Jon) used a Lindy Rattl'N Flyer Spoon in Techni-Glo Red, I think, baited with small mealworms. It was definitely the jig of the day. He hooked a couple of the bass on the outside of the mouth with the big red treble hook that's on the jig. Big treble hook = fewer missed hooksets, I guess. Wink I used the same waxworm-baited Hali Ahven Diamond Jig in Firetiger that I've been using all season. You would have kicked butt with your Macho Minnow, Derek! Laughing

I've been taking the panaoramic photos with my iPhone, using the free Microsoft Photosynth app. It works really well, although there'a a learning curve to using it.

I worry about eating most fish from most Connecticut inland waters. I'm willing to take a chance with stocked walleye and trout, and most fish from spring fed waters. While I think that the Farmington River is relatively clean, the only fish that I'll eat from the Connecticut River are the sea run white perch or striped bass that come up the river to spawn.

Although several of the sunnies that we pulled up were pretty big, they all looked pale to me. I wouldn't eat them. Wink
