Fished the Wednesday Evening Tournament trail on Crystal Lake in Ellington last night with my buddy Orf. There were 12 boats there, which is a lot for this little lake. We were the last boat in the water and I felt lucky that none of the other competitors went to where I wanted to to start. Picked up a short on a DS rig on my first cast. Orf isn't an avid fisherman, so I gave him a wacky senko and he was content. We concentrated on 6-12 feet of water throwing the DS, a shaky-head worm and the senko. We boated at least 15 fish, a lot of them 11 inches. We ended up with our best 5 keepers going 6.44 lbs which was good enough for 2nd place. (1st was 11+ with a 3 lb lunker). A lot of guys only came in with one or two fish or threw 'em back.

HAHAHAHAHA......that lake will out fish 99% of the lakes in CT any day of the week, guaranteed. All it takes is knowledge of the lake.

Dusty, are you saying you could go out and catch a 15+ lb bag out of Crystal more consistently than you could at Candlewood?

Candlewood lake would outfish Crystal Lake 100 times out of 100. If you put 15 boats on each, I guarantee the weights coming out of Candlewood would always beat Crystal. Sure, there's some nice fish in Crystal, but there are a lot of 10-13 inch fish in there as well, you just don't get that in Candlewood. Here are the places that would consistently outfish Crystal Lake (Pond) as far as I'm concerned - Candlewood, Lilly, Twin, Highland, CT River, Bashan, Moodus, Congamond. That's only naming a few. I caught a 20 lb bag at Candlewood this spring, you'd NEVER see that at Crystal. It's comparing apples to oranges.

OHHH REALLY.......

here is your 20 lb limit, plus 5 lbs from Crystal in 1 night, that limit went 25.3...when have you done that on Candy???. Thats the 5th limit over 18 lbs i've pulled from there this year! Your correct, if you put 15 boats on each the weights would be higher on Candy, because there is more space! Not because of the quality of fish! I have 9 fish over 5 and 3 over 6 from Crystal this year alone! Buts thats all I need to say....i dont need more people coming there and catching all the 12 inch bass that are in there Rolling Eyes

5.11

5.7

5.11

5.15

3 at once

Plus a 6.4 from earlier in the year

Not to mention the 3lb smallies

Ok, but does catching those hawgs in a puddle like Crystal still make it better than Candlewood? You had one good night there, big deal. You already won my argument for me by stating that Candlewood would outfish Crystal on a consistent basis. How come I never saw you at any tourneys out there catching those hawgs?

Yep....there is no question in my mind that the chance of catching a 5LB plus fish is better at Crystal than at Candy. And I have fished tournies at Crystal this year, actually I'm 3-0 in tournies there.

AND its not just 1 good night....

I've said enough, like I said I dont need more people there anyway...enjoy Candy and Bashan???? JOKE

Again, I was never beefing that there were hawgs in there, my point was Candlewood is overall a more diverse - and in my opinion - better fishery than a puddle like Crystal. We'll just have to agree to disagree . . .
