Anyone been over towards the power plant canal in Haddam recently? I'm wondering if the canal is still iced up or not. Thinking of heading out Saturday.

this may be a dumb question but i've really been wanting to check that canal out and fish it, can you make it there on foot? or is only accessible by boat? if so, what's the easiest way to get there?

No shore access that I know of. You either have to launch at the Salmon River and (in my case) paddle up or launch at Haddam Meadows and paddle down. I'm thinking about trying to fish the canal or Salmon River Cove on Saturday. I don't know though. I'm always a bit hesitant to take out the kayak when the water is still this cold, but my cabin fever and the sunny day that Saturday is supposed to be is tempting me.....

No shore access. Still have nuclear material stored on a big concrete slab behind the canal, so they don't take kindly to folks wandering around. It's posted all over. When you get your motor, just put in at the Salmon River launch and it's just a short run up river.

Last time I fished there you could get to it via access road. Best bullhead fishing ever Smile
But that was a long long time ago
