After talking to a fellow boater I mentioned how I was getting ready to fog my Yamaha for the winter. When he asked if it was a four stroke and I said yes he asked why was I fogging it. He said he could see it if it was a two stroke but then asked if when you lay up your car for a few months do you fog your engine? Sort of makes sense! any ideas...cmorjoe

Cmorjoe,

FOG the Four Stroke....! I call Yamaha and they FOG the bad boy. Reynalds says the same thing.

I did it last year and I had no issues.

I hope this helps.

Ron

fogging applies a light coat of oil to the inside of the engine, it prevent moisture from rusting you engine. Moisture can get into the combustion chamber by condensation, or if an exhaust valve is in the open position (depending on which stroke the engine is in). I would fog it just to be safe, I also fog any small engine that will sit around for a few months snow blower in summer and lawn mower in winter.
