if you're asking about crystal lake in ellington/stafford there was open water on about 3/4 of the lake at the middle of last week. that lake always takes way longer to ice over than most others.

i believe it's because crystal has more springs in it than most lakes. that's why with crystal you have to be VERY VERY careful during the early season. there are spots on the lake that have 6-7 inches of ice and then 5 feet away there's only 3-4.

Went out on Crystal Lake on January 9th. Ice is safe. Many fisherman were on the lake. Ice was 5 inches thick. Wit hthe continued cold it is only going to get thicker.

Several of us had a good day using medium shiners. Nothing HUGE, but pulled in 2 trout, one 2 lb. pickeral, and 6 bass. Suprising no perch taken. Crystal Lake Bait ineicated that a 9 lb. salmon was taken on Jan. 8th.
