				| Hi ff!
Well you could grease the sides of the ice hole and then when you get his head up -> Ask him to suck in his tummy! LOL

 Sorry! Couldn't resist that one
  LOL
 Best regards,

				| sea if only you put a bit of useful info!
If you only have a 5in auger then it really doesnt matter if the fish can fit or not unless you some how can target the small pike.

If you do not get help directly in this thread I would just search length/girth for pike

				| Hi phs!
 Oh come on lighten up
That was a clean bust your chops joke!

 But, Tell me
How do you "TARGET" smaller Pike
Do you hang a sign above your bait saying -> Only Bass, Crappies, Pike, Perch etc. of a certain size are allowed to bite
  LOL
Yes! Fish can be found in a school -> BUT
I don't think they can read LOL
 Have a Great Weekend,

				| I found it easier to drill with a 6" hand auger than a 8" especially when the ice gets over 8 inches and your working the surface for fish to cover large areas. Most fish will fit through a 6" hole, A fish with 18" of girth will fit but its tight and the hole can shrink a little depending on temps. If your looking for ease of getting the head to turn up the hole go with the 8" hole so as not to lose that "record fish" Unless of course you have a gas auger then go 8" just because you can drill effortlessly! But those guys out there with 10" leg breakers....thats just obscene Happy Fishing _________________

				| Hi JW!
 I AGREE
Those 10" augers are obcene and dangerous.

I stepped into a snow hidden one last year and almost broke a leg.

				| sea I am just messing with you so dont mind my lame attempts to crack a joke
 and

"not unless you some how can target the small pike" I was joking

8in holes can be dangerous to those lil ones out on the ice. Yesterday I seen footprints of a kid who was probably only 3 years old.

That little foot like that could have probably slipped into one of our 6" holes.

6" holes are usually good enough for most fish caught, from what I have seen at least

Well it's getting into the Mid-Winter slow down period
Oxygen levels getting lower, green weeds almost gone, and fish getting legarthic

Time to start using our finesse fishing tricks to get the Lookers turned into Biters

				| LOL !!
 Good Stuff!!

MOST pike in CT will fit thru a 6" hole. There are a few behomoths that might not. If that ever happens to ya... if nothing else, it makes a great story about the one that got away.

				| Of course, after your restful night sleep... your next day on the ice will be the day a new CT State Record Pike will be "the one that got away"... cuz his fat head didnt fit thru your little hole. | |
