Howdy folks,

My name is Zach and I am from Arkansas. Sort of. I say sort of because I may be from Arkansas but my heart is in Colorado and I am doing a stint on a lobster boat here in Connecticut.

I just started fly-fishing this year while I was working in CO and I am now addicted but in a place of which I have no familiarity. I am hoping to get some advice as to rivers and flies that seem to be working out there and hopefully close to where I am located so I have an excuse to get away from the in-laws and spend some evenings fishing my heart out! I am currently stationed in Noank, CT (close to Mystic) so if anybody has some helpful advice I would be very appreciative!!!

Thanks,

Zach Williams

Welcome to the site Zach. Sorry I'm a bass tournament guy, so I'm not going to be any help with fly fishing for trout.

Zach,

I'm a Colorado at heart guy as well. I went to Colorado State and have spent many days on the Poudre River, the Roaring Fork and the Frying Pan out there. Connecticut's got a ton of good trout streams. The Housatonic and Farmington are the ones you'll hear most about. I've had fun and success on the Farmington above Riverton. The guys at the fly shops up there will tell you what's hot or not.

I've been concentrating mostly on bass fishing the last two summers so I don't have anything more specific than that. Welcome to the site!

Welcome Zack, I'm new to this site but have been living in north eastern CT all my life. If you are a big fly fisherman and you live right on the ocean your in luck! I suggest getting into saltwater fly fishing for strippers. What a rush. I typically fish for trout in late March through mid April, after that it gets too warm to trout fish but that's when the stripers come on big and your in the ideal spot. I suggest Barn Island in Stonington which is a hop skip and a jump from where you are living don't I95 or rt1. CT has a nice program for managed trout streams that only allow fly fishing and catch and release that have very good trout fishing in early to late spring. You can get a lot of info here ->
