Hello!
I'm visiting NE CT Friday - Monday (my wife is antiquing and I'm fishing!) and I would like advice on fishing in the area from shore. My research on the forums has lead me to a short-list:
-Black Pond
-Bigelow Hollow/Mashapaug
-New City Pond
-Dennis Pond
-Staffordville Lake (a resident has offered to take me on his boat)
-Crystal Lake (not sure there's shore fishing here)
I've examined most via aerial maps using Google, but its hard to tell which has got the best shore fishing...I'm targeting bass mostly but have trout gear too.
The last thing I want to do is waste gas and time running from pond to pond--which would you say is the most productive and has best shoreline access?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

| I believe Staffordville is a private lake and you would be fishing from a boat instead of the shoreline. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Have fun and good luck! |

Go to either staffordville or bigelow/mashapaug. New City and Black pond are no good from shore(they aren't too good from a boat either). I believe Dennis pond is for Stafford residents only. Crystal has very limited shorefishing.

Thank you Dirtydawg, Kira, Steven,
Much appreciated advice on Black and New Pond... My Staffordville lake connection fell through so I guess its Bigelow/Mashapaug for me!
I'm thinking given Kira's advice (and my general belief that private ponds get less pressure) that Dennis Pond may be worth the risk...maybe my innkeeper can get me a permit...
I'll post-up the results.

Breakneck is up there too you know...one of the most unpressured, non-private ponds in CT. Totally worth the hike.

I'm thinking about Breakneck too but I was a little concerned about the "bear" comment someone made 
Maybe if I build up my courage, heh-heh.

Its worth getting mauled by bears. When you get to the south end of the pond go clockwise past the first batch of stumps and you'll be in the center of heaven.
