I went fishing on the Yellowbird party boat http://www.yellowbirdfishing.com/ out of Hampton Beach, NH, with DirtyDawg10 (aka Derek) and his brothers yesterday. Derek's little brother Isaac landed this prehistoric monster:

It looked like the marine version of a snakehead or bowfin. Captain Rick identified it as a cusk. Per Captain Rick, "They're good eatin'!"

That's a pretty neat catch. According to wikipedia they are a Threatened Species but I'm not sure what the regs are on them.

I read that there's a commercial harvest on them. Captain Rick is very professional. He's a professional smartass to be sure Rolling Eyes , but still very professional. I'm sure that he wouldn't have let Isaac keep it if it weren't legal. I have a feeling that the visit to the Yellowbird by the New Hampshire Marine Patrol at the the end of the trip was not an unusual occurrence:

We just told the Marine Patrol officers that Kira wasn't with us and they motored away. Wink

lol

It was a freaky looking fish and it felt like a tube sock filled with jello (don't ask how I know what that feels like). It was strange. He also caught a hake. He said it was a "blue hake" but after looking a bit I'm thinking it was probably a "white hake". Not sure though.
