				| Thanks to MarkO for reminding me that I can kill time at ponds other than Stub Pond! I fished Spring Pond from my Trophy 126 this morning, from 8:15 am to 9:45 am. It was already sunny and warm, with an on again, off again south breeze. I launched at the culvert on the west shore of the south cove:

I worked my way counter-clockwise around the cove. I wanted to drag a frog over the weeds in the shallow area on the west shore that's just south of the culvert. It wasn't long before I got a good hit, reeled in the slack line and set the hook on a nice largemouth bass:

It was 16 inches long. At this point, I realized that I had left my digital scale in the trunk of my car, but the bass weighed about two pounds. 10 minutes later, I got a hit from what I could tell was a smaller bass and set the hook on it, but lost it after I got it out of the weeds and within a few feet of my kayak. It was a small keeper, maybe 12 or 13 inches long, so I wasn't too upset about losing it. And 10 minutes after that, I got a big hit and set the hook on a really good bass. It pulled drag, and swam underneath my kayak and turned it. I was relieved when I finally pulled it out of the weeds and lipped it:

It was 21 inches long and a solid 4+ pounds. Whoo hoo! I debated putting it on a stringer or in my new net (yes, Daryl, I got a net
) while I retrieved my scale from the trunk of my car, but after reading Flipper's post about losing some pike to the heat this year, I decided to just release it. Now, if it had been 22 inches or longer, it might have had to wait before being released. . . . I didn't get any more hits after that, but the south and east shores of the south cove don't have much weed cover. I had hopes for the weedy shallows to the south of the south island, but got nothing there. I had a good 1-1/2 hours on the water, anyway. _________________

				| Nice catch. You don't have to worry about bass that way, though. They are a much heartier fish than pike. Bass and cats can stay out for a while and be fine. Pike remind me of trout in this manner - wussies out of water. _________________

I think the POND blog is actually a good idea for all of us considering the plethora of productive ponds we have in this great state.

				| I looked through some photos of largemouth bass that I caught at Spring Pond last year and am pretty sure that I caught the same fish on May 16, 2010, when it was 20 inches long and weighed three pounds, nine ounces:

				| It's a lot paler now than it was last year. Now I just need to pull a johnnybass860 and catch it again in six or seven years when it's a state record! _________________

				| Hey PECo, great job! Nothing makes my day like boating a 20+ incher. I figure once they hit 21" they gotta be at the 4lb mark, right? unless they are extremely skinny. I also love how you work those ponds too buddy. I have been workn small ponds almost exclusively this year and it has been a blast!
I also agree with you guys on the pond blog... sounds awesome! That would be my first stop every login.
