They are like cheetahs - fast and strong, but they tire quickly. The real fight starts when you get them in the boat. Shocked

I just started my account here at the suggestion of a fishing buddy and of course hearing the lingo is like listening to enthusiasts of anything anywhere, and I don't understand most of what is being said so, what's a leader? My friend and I are going to fish this lake on Tuesday.

A leader is a length of line that you tie onto the end of your main line. When fishing for pike, most guys use wire or very heavy fluorocarbon line as a leader, so that the pike can't snap the line near the hook with its teeth. When fishing for trout, some fishermen use very fine fluorocarbon line, so that the trout can't see it. Usually, only a short length of leader material is needed, typically one to three feet.
