The fish, a common carp weighing 36 pounds, would have bested the existing Rhode Island carp record by several pounds, had it been killed and officially weighed. It was also a pound bigger than a 35-pound record pike taken in the state.

Kudos to him for not killing for the sake of a state record. Nice to see people are out there just for the sport of it!
