				| I'm looking into getting a portable fish finder. Does anybody have any suggestions on which one i should get. I'm looking into spending around $200 even though i will go up a little more if necessary. |

				Hi,

I got a, new to market, Garmin echo300c and it is portable by putting the transducer on a piece of PVC pipe.

This is color fish finder and I love it!

It's what I use for all my freshwater fishing -> especially Kokanee.

You will have to purchase seperatly a small 12 volt battery for it.

Got it from Sails Marine, an internet company based here in Ct.

Priced a little more then $200.00.

 www.sailsmarine.com

You can also Google Garmin up and look at the specs.

				| $219.99 on Bass Pro with a $30 mail in rebate. That puts you under your $200, just my $.02 |

I've been in the market for a good sonar unit myself for my kayak, I might just go with this one over the more expensive units I have been looking into. Seems like it gets the job done for what I need. |

				Hi,

Well if you guys get the Garmin echo 300c -> it comes with a nice flasher program built in it -> just like the flashers used for ice fishing!

Worked well, the very few days I used it on the ice this past season!

				hmmm...

well i know it has a clamp type mount similar to that of a grab-n-go type trolling motor...

not quite sure how a sit-in kayak is setup, but im sure you could easily fabricate a simple mount that would accomodate your needs. _________________ ...of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy.

It's easy to mount a transducer to work through a plastic kayak hull. You just need some inch-thick foam, glue and Marine Goop. There's a lot of information available online about how to do it.

The Lowrance Elite-4x DSI sells for under $200 and provides higher resolution Down Scan Imaging. Ask around and check out online reviews before you buy anything. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

these "portable" fish tinders dont have transducers. don't need a marine battery. they simply mount on the side, aim down, and turn on. i see em on canoes quite a bit. saves you from drillin holes in your yak. its actually pretty cheap to do, so its not like you're payin extra for portability. _________________ ...of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy.
