This could alternately be titled "Fishing with Worms is Bad Karma", but that's part II.
Part I finds me with an afternoon off and a need for some smallmouth action in the rain. I suit up in my wool stuff, yes I'm a little girl, but I like to stay warm. I head down to the Housatonic at the Covered Bridge and walk out. Oddly enough I have the place to myself. First Cast with a small torpedo yields a dink smallie, but they are jumping all over the place, so I move around a bit and try to stay as warm as I can, but Its amazing how cold you can get wearing jeans in the rain on a 50 degree day. All in all, the bass were pretty agressive and I got 4 dinks and 1 nice two pounder. The water was VERY low and so I was wondering if it wasn't too shallow for the normal smallmouth denizens to hang out. I packed up and headed up to the powerplant in falls village. Caught another dink below the dam and then a nice one above the dam. I couldn't figure out though why the water was so low, it was cresting the dam in F.V., kinda odd in the middle of August, but the hydro plant didn't have a single turbine running. (Pissed off about high electric bills? call Northeast Utilities and ask why!).
By this point I managed to lose the small torpedo that had been my savior all day and I was cold and wet so I headed Home.
Tally - 5 or 6 dinks (really so tiny its almost funny) and 2 nice smallies. No pics, due to the rain didn't want to get the camera wet.
Part II forthcoming...[/img] _________________ Golf Bravo Romeo - Where there's always a crosswind, but nobody will tell you. |
