Saturday the wife and my daughters wanted to go to go visit some friend down at the Hawk’s Nest in Old Lyme; So my son and I looking around for some place to put the boat in and do a little fishing.

I talked to Mark (Just4Fun) for some notes on Rodgers Lake to see if I can beat his best; he told me not to bother going because with all the boaters and Jet skiers the fish just shut down.

He mentioned Gorton’s Pond, so I checked it out on the GPS and in the DEP book and it looked like just what my son and I would like for the day.

We got to the ramp around 3:30pm and the water was about 81degs, fairly stained but very calm. We started out by the lily pads on the end of the pond with not much luck, a couple of small hits but nothing more.

We moved along the eastern shore throwing a Texas rigged worm and still nothing; that’s when my son started trying everything in the tackle box.

My son tossed me a Baby Folk Creature (Black with Red flake) to try out, I never used it before. We just purchased them one our way down to the lake from TF, the second cast into a sunny area, no cover, no weeds BAM….. 4lb LMB.

Moved down about ten feet BAM second 4lb LMB. WOW this bait works nice..

It was 6:30pm by then and we had to leave to get the girls. Meet one of the locals at the ramp and he mentioned that he has caught 6lbs in the pond before.

Thank Mark for the tip… I might have to make the trip again some day.
