				| i really dont remember the exact places we fished that day, but i caught a nice mother largemouth in the first bay, it was my first time fishing highland this year, i am coming back for a bigger fish next time

she was caught on a black jelly worm

she weighed in at around 3.5 lbs and 18 inches long

i had to cut the line because the hook was really deep, but at least she wasn't bleeding

				| Nice fish! I've had such a great spring with 3-4+ pounders. Now that the water temp is about to come up drastically we'll see what summer has in store. Time to change gears. _________________

				| Nice catch. By the looks of its tail it was making a bed for spawning no? Unless something bit it. _________________

				| No, the spawn ended a long time ago. At 18 inches long and 3-1/2 pounds, that fish is probably a female that got bitten by another fish, maybe a chain pickerel. Here's the tail of an actively bedding male from 05/17:

It's amazing how they rub the bottoms of their tails clean off while fanning eggs on the bed.

I thought it was way too late for a spawn tail like that. That is pretty crazy how they rub it right off.

I bet it was a pickerel that made a snack out of his tail.

				| could have def been from the spawn, I was catching fish on beds less than 2 weeks ago, and Highland is big, deep, and in a cooler part of the state, Im going with a spawn tail IMO it could have gotten infected or something? | |
