I got this info first hand via a phone call directly after this happened.
My buddy was fishing from branford town dock and hooked a fish that proceeded to spool his reel.He said the line didn`t speed out like a tuna but more like a steady stream swimming away never really changing its pace no head shakes and no gears left in the reel after he locked it down trying to stop whatever it was.

I would think either a monster bass or a large ray.

He uses a heavy 7 foot rod with 50lb power pro and 6500 baitrunner.
While the reel isnt the most powerful he was spooled within a minute.

I was thinking it might be a seal as well. They have been in that area last season.
