Back in May I had a medium light Shimano rod break while trying to get a lure off of a tree. I wasn't even giving it much bending pressure.

I plan on taking the city bus to a local WalMart this weekend to look at rods in the light and medium light categories for a combination of trout, panfish, smaller bass, smaller pickerel, suckers, and snapper blues. Stiffness is something else I like.

As for price, I'm looking for something no higher than $35.

Any recommendations on what would be a good rod? I'm also an online shopper if there's something better for a good price online.

people may make fun of it... but I use 2 ugly stcks. Have had my ml 5'6" for at least 25 years.. still use it, never broke, it's a 2 piece stick. That's my advice.

If I see a 5' 6" L or ML Ugly stick for a reasonable $29.99 at Walmart I'll def get it.

All I saw that were around what I was looking for were 1 UL 5' Ugly Stick and 2 5' 6" ML spincasting setups.

5' Ugly Stick too light and I use spinning setups.

I'll see what I can find on Amazon.

for trout and panfish i have had great success using th ebright yellow Featherlight from Eagle Claw - got it at walmart for $19

aside from that Im an ugly stick guy - many can be had for $30 at walmart from 5'to7' and in th eM and ML category as well

Just came from Amazon and ordered a 5' 6" light action 2 piece combo for $34.95 with free shipping.

Plan on selling the reel on Ebay and am looking into durable spinning reels that hold at least 140 yards of 6 pound mono.

My prime brands as for reels are South Bend, Penn, Daiwa, Zebco, and Okuma.

Will look on Amazon and Ebay for reels and then list certain ones that look interesting to me with a good price.

You didn't mention Shimano....
I use Spirex, I believe Peco uses shimano, I've never had problems with shimano.

South Bend is my main brand as for price currently cause I have an older medium action WTC220 that has seen lots of fishing but no problems. Shakespeare and Shimano haven't been as good to me. Zebco and Daiwa are others I have better history with.

Any certain Shimanos without the auto cast that would last long while seeing heavy fishing?

If you have a good history with Zebco and Daiwa, then just stay with those. Silly to try something different if what you're using is working for you fine.

I have a spincast/baitcast rod hanging around, I was thinking of picking up a zebco rhino or the classic 33.

I just finished purchasing a Zebco Adventure Series size 20. Total was $19.87 with shipping and saw great reviews for the reel as for quality vs price.

Depending on how things go with this reel, a move I'll make is similar to what I did a few months ago for my schoolie setup. Spend an extra $10 to $20 on a better reel. That one would be a Daiwa Crossfire.
