Hi,

Why is it that pretty much only here in Ct. fisherman don't keep Pike to eat !

Pike is one of the sweetest flavorable white fish to eat. Thumbs Up

In Mass., Vt. NH, and NY they keep them to eat !
Out in the Mid-west they spear them in dark houses and eat them.
In Maine they "HATE" them and leave them on the ice as coyote or eagle food !

Me ! -> I'll keep a legal size Pike or large Pikerel to eat !
There are some videos on youtube on how to fillet them !
Just as good if not better then a Cod loin !
Plus some recipes on how to make poor man's lobster out of Pike !

My buddy caught and ate one and told me it tasted awful. Could it be that they taste not as good in the summer, or does he just not know how to cook? If the latter's the case, send me a recipe to try. I'm thinking about tasting my first pike. Why not keep one, they live short lives here in CT anyways. 8 years here as opposed to 25 up north. The monsters people pull out probably only got a couple more years to live anyways. Lucky for us they grow much faster here.

My Pops loves pickerel. He almost strings it before I get a chance to measure it... Laughing

Pickle the pickerel-

better than pickled herring.

Pike are fine to eat if you remember the bones are in the same place in every fish and you can cut them out ahead of time or eat around them.

If the pike ate tasted bad, odds are, the problem was with the chef, not the fish; really no reason for them to taste bad since they're not fresh out of a stock tank.

why don't I eat pike because I want to throw them back and let them grow bigger! The only fish that I really would eat that I catch are trout and salmon but I rarely fish for them.
