ok, so i got a great running 6hp 2 cyl 6hp evinrude i plan on running on my 12' alum vhull... but the kicker is its a longshaft off a 22' sailboat, identical to that one, now i would like to make it a short shaft, due to it being such a great running machine and the new impeller that was ninstalled right before i got it,

my question is, can i remove the lower unit and eliminate the extension in the housing and the shaft and re assemble to make a short shaft motor, as it sits on my boat is is about 5-6" below the hull of my boat, and it almost hits the ground when i have it down on the trailer...

so any info would be great, or any leads on parts to convert it and/or trade to a similar size short shaft would be great

Thanks
Jammin

http://www.boats.net/images/diagrams/brp/IMAGES/279680/10.png this is a veiw of the shaft for your motor I dont see a 2nd drive shaft for your motor even though it shows the extention it would depend on the driveshaft in the shaft houseing being able to ajust to the shorter length

yea, i pulled the lower unit off today and i would need to order a new shaft and shift linkage, so for me its not worth it, so im going to try to sell it and buy a short shaft, or trade it for a short shaft

you should be able to get away with useing it for now.. being 3 inches longer shouldnt make to much differance. just be careful in the shallows is all .

Smile ....... better to be 3 inches to long than to short...if you had to make the choice

the ground clearance is about the same for my motor when I trailer . To protect my motor from hitting I use engine support bar and transport it in the up position . http://www.cabelas.com/product/Swivl-Eze174-Transom-Saver-150-2334-3534/701334.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dtrailer%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D80%26search%3Dtrailer%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts%26x%3D17%26y%3D8&Ntt=trailer&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products

Maybe you could just build up the transom a few inches. I have seen it done. Look at the forums in tinboats.com maybe for an idea.
