I went to Essex today and went fishing and caught so many white perch but when I filleted them I notice a green fluid sometimes. I wanted to know if the fish is still safe to eat. There was not too much of the liquid but a small amount. Does anyone know what it is?

My guess is that you cut the gall bladder which is filled with bile. The gall bladder is a very small pouch located adjacent to the stomach.

If it IS bile, it'll be godawful bitter.

Hey, Kyle, what were the white perch biting? Small jigs dragged on the bottom or nightcrawlers, perhaps?

Yeah, the gallbladder guess sounds like it might be right. You may want to watch a video on filleting fish to not do that again, if it was the case. As peco said, that may make it not so tasty. Fish bile. Yummy.
